You shouldn't find it strange; it is a first aid method many people use....unfotunately, sucking poison out of one's snake bite wound to save one's life is a common misconception. It doesn't work and it just causes more problems: delaying prompt medical care, contaminating the wound or damaging nerves and blood vessels.

she found it strange because she got bit on her FOOT but he started sucking the blood out of her CALF. so don't you think that if you were going to suck the poinson from a bite that happened on a foot you should suck the poison from the FOOT not the CALF! and to the OP LOL!
