Today, when I read Madhu-jii's submission I realised that while young Goraas manage to relationally cripple themselves by having affairs, young Desis can get emotionally crippled just by having parents.

fettslaab is the ultimate anti-desi. I'm really, no offense to you sir since you're my elder, getting sick of the anti-desi comments.

Madhu-jii, please accept my apologies for that gratuitous swipe at your respected parents, which could not have been very helpful. I am assuming that your family is somewhere out of India. Your parents probably act in the way you describe because their background is the extended family, and where you are now they feel that they are practically alone to defend their young against an insanely threatening society. I know one couple who are forever moving back and forth between home and Canada and the UK. They can't make up their minds, do they really want to raise their kids in those places? It is not easy for them. The first part of what I said -about what happens to American kids- I have to stand by that. Your parents aren't fools, they can see. Small wonder they keep talking about marrying you off. Please don't get exasperated.
