If you weren't lying and sneaking behind your parents' back, you wouldn't have this problem. If you're 'cool and modern' enough to have a girlfriend, be 'cool and modern' enough to tell your parents. How does this lying and cheating benefit you? At least it makes you look desi- someone so desperate to be modern and have a girlfriend that they would lie to their parents about it. I applaud you (!)

Call me crazy, but don't you think that's enough incentive to tell your parents first on your terms instead of waiting for them to hear in a manner guarenteed to upset them? What kind of blessing can an angry parent give? At least you can attempt some respect for telling them there is a girl you're talking to about the future with.
