Today, I'm hopefully going to tell my parents that I want to marry the love of my life (we've been together for 3 years) and we both feel we're completely ready to settle down. This should be the happiest day of my life but I'm terrified about bringing this up. Any advice? TMDL

I would suggest you and your love tell them together over something casual and friendly like dinner at their house. If you do it on your parent's turf with a very comfortable setting where they can talk freely they will most likely be more apt to feel supportive. Congrats and good luck my friend!

Since you're obviously desi, wouldn't it be better to tell you parents alone, so they could get used to the idea first, and then bring along the boy? But then, the dinner idea's also good if you think your parents are the kind who might smile and say 'that is won-derrful, beta', at least only because they have company. They're your parents, you know them best. Good luck!

First, make them happy. What do they they like? Start speaking to them in your language, not english. Then, let them bring up the subject of marriage. If they don't then you start it. It's harder then it sounds. Congrats and good luck :-)
