Sounds like the guy was just making a last ditch effort to get a date, not trying to be insensitive. I give him props for having the courage to ask you out, that's not an easy thing to do, especially a gora asking out a desi girl!

Thanks layla. For telling all of us girls out there who aren't like that, that your proud we stand by our principles. And as for the OP- I'm sorry you were forced into an image people have of AbCDs in America. Even most Abcds aren't like that.

I'm proud of people who refuse to be hypocrites Priyam. She refused him on religious grounds. I can respect that even if I don't always agree with it. At the end of the day the OP has to be at peace with her faith. I'm glad she is smart enough not to get in a relationship, regardless of the nature, then come back to say she can't continue it because of how she feels about her faith. There are a lot of Desis who do that and it's just abhorant. If she did not feel like religion was the issue and wanted to date this guy, but said no because she was not allowed to date by her parents, I'd still respect her for that action too.
