Today, I read TMDL and I say you ABCDs are nuthing. You try to act white, but all the white people laugh at you. When u come to india you think u all that but why u cant do that when u go front of white and black ppl. Even if u born in USA, u still indian. TMDL

I understand what you are saying; but you my friend dont understand the people and the culture. Indian culture is not progressive, western culture is. People that are weak and ashamed act the way you have described. People that are destined to be succesful understand the strengths and weaknesses and exploit them. WHen you understand this you realize how pointless indian values and culture are

There is a difference between being cultured and being a fob. Yes some people do act like they are "all that", some people try hard to be themselves and it comes off as they are trying to be "all that". My point being, when "Indian4life" writes that comment it just comes off as him being insecure about what he believes in. Disapproval is one thing, calling them out on how they act just shows that you are kind of a racist. No one likes being laughed at, and if some ABCDs do have to go through that, they should change, but sometimes its not about where you come from, its more about where you are going to. Give the ABCDs a shot "Indian4life", they are fun.

My take- Kane4Life4ever, I politely disagree with you. I do not see Indian Values as pointless. My mother always says that to survive in this world, one needs to change accordingly to their environment but not lose their identity and their culture. Its your identity that helps you survive in this world-once you let go of that you are nothing. Why? Because other races cannot truly accept you completely and you will have no identity and support from your own values. What I'm trying to say is being Indian is where its at. Its the only true security you will experience in your life. But thats my take. I am Indian born, though I mainly grew up here. I am proud of my culture, because it eventually comes down to how well your family instills values into you. I teach Hindi, as a high schooler, and unlike many girls in America I don't play double-faced nor are my parents super restrictive. Its good to have an open mind. Embrace your culture!

Official Definition (urbandictionary)----->American Born Confused Desi. ABCDs are Americans of Indian ancestry who generally travel in packs. They can be seen in the pre-med classes of college campuses across the country. They're generally from the suburbs, listen to rap music, and get drunk every weekend while their parents think that they are little angels who don't know a thing about sex or drugs. Although ABCDs never hang out with non-Indians, they usually abhor their ancestral culture and refuse to watch Indian movies, listen to Indian music, speak in Indian languages, or eat Indian food. ABCD guys are the Indian equivalent of wiggers while the girls are stuck-up spoiled brats who don't know how to drive. Despite usually being cheap, ABCDs are willing to spend lots of money on cover charges and alcohol.

hi all. little confused at what some of you are trying to say. this is how i simply see the thatsmydesilife site: i think its all about having a sense of humour without having bad intentions of hurting anyone/anything. some stories are stupid/bad/whatever and some of them i think a lot of us enjoy reading. a lot of the things we write we may not want to change about our life, but i also think there are some that we don't want people to know that this is what desi people stand for or what the word "desi" stands for- ex: cheapness. so some of us are trying to share a laugh with other desis around the world and some of us...i dunno necessarily because i am here to get a laugh and relate to others. i think people need to just understand the "pure" meaning of being desi, and not try to make the word "desi" have bad connotations- some stories may make us look bad, but then i think its just suppose to be a SENSE OF HUMOUR. peace and respect to all..be happy with who you really are :)

sorry also would like to add that being desi is not a bad thing at all. try to be happy with who you are. its just how our lives are, how our parents our, how the society is, that we would call it "desi" when really to start off, the word wasn't suppose to represent the negative aspects in the first place. so like i said its just a sense of humour.

okay so i actually get what your saying. i wish u would have put a couple of periods in you post but whatever. basically a better way of saying this is: we're always on the outside looking in. in America its hard to be apart of their culture FULLY because we still have our Desi values. Admit it.you always end up thinking about you desi morals and values. this makes it really had to be in the American Culture.

Hey champak lal, i still dont get the big deal about this guys post. He is right to a point. Hes just upset because of the bitchy ABCD girls who act white and hate their culture. Hes not out to get people like you or me or anyone who is proud to be Indian regardless of where they are born. Now I'm not commenting on the whole race issue he brought up...

There are more than twelve grammar issuses in this. STOP THINKING YOU'RE COOL. IDIOT. This is how it's supposed to be. BEFORE : "Today, I read TMDL and I say you ABCDs are nuthing. You try to act white, but all the white people laugh at u. When u come to india you think u all that but why u cant do that when u go front of white and black ppl. Even if u born in USA, u still indian. TMDL" AFTER : "Today, I read TMDL*,* and I say you ABCDs are *nothing*. You try to act white, but all the white people laugh at you. When *you* come to india*,* you think *that* *you* *are* all that*,* but why *can't* *you* do that when *you* go *in* front of white and black *people* *?* Even if *you* *were* born in *the* USA, *you* *are* still indian. TMDL" And, by the way, that entire statement makes NO SENSE AT ALL. You need to get a life. Leave. Bye.
